Sirius and XM Canada are Merging!!

Sirius Canada and XM Canada will merge, offering listeners a broad range of stations and eventually a “best-of-both” channel package.

    http://www.canadiandriver.com/2010/1...nies-merge.htm

"The companies entered into a definitive agreement to combine in an all-stock merger of equals with a combine enterprise value of approximately $520 million. Upon completion, Sirius Canada president and CEO Mark Redmond will hold those offices in the combined company, while XM Canada CFO Michael Washinushi will retain that title."

It's about time. Most customers have been asking for this for quite some time.

This may be a change that has occurred since the merger. I noticed on another Forum that a customer was offered "Mostly Music" from Sirius Canada (just like Sirius US offers) for $9.99 per month. The customer reported that he also still received the online stream.

"Applications by Canadian Satellite Radio Inc. (CSR) and Sirius Canada Inc. (Sirius) (collectively the applicants) for authority to change the effective control of CSR and Sirius as part of a merger transaction."

"The applicants stated that the two services, Sirius Canada and XM Canada, will remain distinct from one another and will continue to operate pursuant to the same terms and conditions as those in effect under their current licences."

No mention of allowing "BEST OF PACKAGES".

XM Canada has announced that Canadian Satellite Radio (CSR) Holdings Inc. shareholders have approved the merger of XM Canada and Sirius Canada at CSR's annual and special meeting of shareholders held in Toronto earlier today (Feb 17, 2011). Approval from the CRTC and the Competition Bureau are still needed.

It's official!! The CRTC has ruled that Canadian Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (CSR), which is the parent company of XM Canada, and Sirius Canada, will be allowed to merge. The combined company will be owned by CSR. The merger remains subject to the satisfaction of certain closing conditions and is scheduled to close by June 2011. Additionally, the CRTC also gave one-year license renewals to the services, from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012.

I hope we finally get the same channel line-up in Canada between the 2 services that they do in the US. XM currently have music channels not available on Sirius even on the Internet services.
