Sirius XM Radio to air MSNBC

Sirius XM Radio announced yesterday that they will begin to air MSNBC programming on April 12th. The deal represents another television network parlaying their content onto satellite radio. Fox, CNN, and other channels have similar deals already in place. I would like to see CBC News Channel added to the list, since CBC has part ownership of Canadian Sirius Radio.

MSNBC programming will be available on Sirius channel 90 and XM channel 120.

XM, way back when (prior to U.S. merger), had MSNBC but yanked it...and now it's back.

MSNBC was last heard on XM on September 3, 2006.

See here for previous attempts to save it:

Great now I can ignore it on my tv and satellite radio. Couldn't that bandwidth been used for something important? Like bringing back the Sirius SuperShuffle channel.

Never could understand why people think their own preferences should supercede those of others.

First of all, it's now Sirius XM, no more just Sirius.

Second of all, why would we need another "hits" channel?

Is anyone in Canada getting it yet? Just a phone # on my channel 90 Sirius.

I found the answer on Sirius Lounge:

"In granting the satellite radio licenses to Sirius and XM in Canada, the CRTC mandated 1 Canadian content channel for each 9 non-cancon channels (10%). I believe we are at the limit of non-cancon channels without adding a new Canadian channel. Since adding a new channel would effectively mean adding it to both the US and Canada, I don't think that will happen soon (i.e. cost, bandwith). I would bet we're more likely to get it down the road with a channel change-up where we'd lose another channel and gain MSNBC."MikeToronto

    hmmmmm!!
