    Question channel on demand

I want to know how come many people told me that channel on demand by satellite providers will never happen. when i look at this website(channel lineup for direct tv) there is a lot of channel on demand.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DirecTV_channels

    I'll give you an exemple:

    1)tlc on demand
    2)discovery channel on demand
    3)Discovery health on demand
    4)spike on demnad
    5)Military channel on demand
    6)G4 on demand
7)cmt on demand and many more.

How come that bell tv does not come up with this kind of channel for the channel that we have in Canada. I believe it will be more worth it to have satellite and worth it to watch tv. That way I will not miss anything...

There are a couple of well known ways to do this. One is to set aside hidden space on a DVR drive to record the programming automatically. The drawback is that it takes up disk space for programming you will probably never watch. Another way would be to use an IPTV capable receiver that could "receive" the on demand programming by alternate means such as DSL2. (I believe that is Bell's eventual plan.) OTOH, the DirecTV offering may not the same "on demand" service that cable offers.

AFAIK, DirecTV used to reserve some space on the DVR for potential VOD events. They now use IPTV.
