    Expressvu 6100 Question.

I was wondering if I could hook up the 6100 with Y/B/R connections to a non HDTV television. I read somewhere that you can select the output to the tv. 1080, 720, 480. Is it just a matter of selecting 480 and hooking up the wires?

if your non-HDTV is progressive scan capable then 480p should work as it is one of the settings under HDTV Settings. For 480 interlaced video, i belive that only the S-video and composite work on the 6100.

Do not hook a 480p component output from the 6100 to a 480i component input on the TV. You may damage the TV set. I do not think the 6100 has a 480i component output. Use the S-video from the 6100 to the S-video on the TV.

The 6100 is 1080i,720p and 480p menu selectable on component. 480i is obviously S Video and composite. If his tv is PS capable then he can set the output in the 6100 menu to 480p.

    Re: Expressvu 6100 Question.

How do know if your Sony Wega TV is 480p or 480i if there is no menu on the tv telling you ?

I have a Sony 32" WEGA Non HD in the Bedroom. It's a Sony WEGA KV-32FV15. It some years old, but on the back & front its got S-Video. Also in the back its got to inputs for COAXIAL CABLE(AUX~CABLE/ANT) and the DVD in put thing. I never plugged the 6000 in as I didn't wan to damage the set, but if I was to buy the 6100.

    1) will it work?
    2) which input can I pulg it into? S-VIDEO? Coaxial? the DVD in put?
The DVD input has that blue, green, red, yellow colour inputs. I think the inputs are P, PB, PR, and the two audio inputs. Can I plug the 6100 here?

    THANKS

    Re: Expressvu 6100 Question.

I have had a quick look at the on-line manual for the WEGA KV-32FV15, and there is no mention of HD or progressive input.

There are component inputs, but these probably take 480i only - AFAIK the 6100 cannot generate 480i
I believe it has to send a HD signal thru the component out - so 480p or better. Strictly speaking, even 480p is not HD

THese component inputs are useful for older DVD players (480i only) or the newer DVD players in interlaced mode

What I have above applies directly to the Wega XBR200 36" which I have - within one model cycle Sony was supporting anamorphic, then progressive, then HD a few models later
The Sony was purchased about 4 yrs ago, so I suspect it is the same genre as the KV-32FV15

One option to prove whether it accepts progressive is to hook a progressive Sony DVD player up, set it to 480p, and off you go (or off you don't go, as the case may be!)

    See http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic....3&forum=34 for some issues

Also this link which seems to indicate that the 200 and your set are similar, and don't support anamorphic or progressive (ie we are both stuck with older pre-HD sets)

So I believe the best input you are going to get is the S-video

    Re: Expressvu 6100 Question.

    Ok then.

I al readu have the 600 hookef up to a SONY WEGA HD sey.

So then I asume I can hook up a 6100 to the K32FV15 using S-Video? Right? I know it won'yt bre in HD but I can use the strech mod on th 6100 to fit the 4:3 screen so I can then ge th HD channels on the set. It more od a sub issue that I'm loking at. And now the the HD receivers have become more reasonably priced, I think uts worth getting.

    Re: Expressvu 6100 Question.

the only other refinement here is whether your Sony Wega HD (currently hooked to 6000) has a DVI input
In that case, I would swap over the 6100 and the 600
