I sure hope that they are just not showing their hand right now as not to evoke competition.

Well...I certainly wouldn't lie awake nights worrying about the financial viability of Shaw/StarChoice http://investdb.theglobeandmail.com/invest/investSQL/gx.company_prof?compan y_in=Shaw+Communications (http://investdb.theglobeandmail.com/invest/investSQL/gx.company_prof?company_in=Shaw+Communications)

Warren Buffet didn't buy over 15,000,000 shares of SJR in just because he likes curved dishes http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

IMO StarChoice/Shaw are not as aggressive as we would probably like as they are not blowing the budget on marketing.

Don't forget, Starchoice has to cover only a fraction of ExpressVu's costs as Shaw/Cancom have other revenue streams from many of the feeds.

In short, IMO StarChoice is laughing all the way to the bank, watching ExpressVu spending $$$$$ in educating the public about DTH. Don't think that all dealer ExpressVu advertising is resulting in system sales for ExpressVu http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

.....That's probably more than I should say about that.

Star Choice has a history of playing low key compared to ExpressVu but usually delivers on it's promises.

"Who thinks Star Choice is going to come through?"

I'm afraid they will do as little as possible to compete.

If not for them being pushed by Xvu's progress I think they would be even more of a cable company than they are now.

They were the first to offer PPV.
I guess we will have to wait to see if they can get their dual sat working before Nimiq2. http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

SC:
First to use FSS satellites for DTH in Canada
First with PPV
First successful CDN DTH company
First HD provider in North America
First dual sat provider in Canada
First to use an elliptical dish in North America

BEV:
First to use a DBS satellite in Canada
First to offer a PVR in Canada
First to offer porn in Canada
First to offer CI in Canada
First to use an 18" dish in Canada

Both companies have had a lot of firsts including screwups.

SC:
First to screw up HD
First to screw up their IPG

BEV:
First to screw up repoints
First to screw up Dolby AC3

I think they will deliver but it may be delayed somewhat because of the problem with french subs/upgrade. SC has been quite too long compared to Bev which shows with Bevs higheer sub rate. I disagree with Arthur over Sc being like a cable company, the same as I would disagree with Bev being like a telephone company. Those are just their mother comapnies so to say. What I would like to know is when will new subs taper off.
I suspect both companies have about 1.5 million subs between them with Bev ahead for now. Last time I firgued it out, it accounted for about 16% of homes in Canada and this number conitues to rise each month. At some point , the subs base will have to stop growing but at what percentage of the Canadian market. How much of the market share will the both satellite compaines have, 50%, 75% 30 %?

Snoman,
Not to start any big fisticuffs, but there is a difference between being the first to offer a PVR capable receiver and the actual launch of the service itself.

Well said though, both companies have brought a change in the way cable companies to business. I do share the same concerns over SC laid back approach, but I would rather results over hype anyday(not a shot at Express Vu).

Since You are not Expressvu subscriber.
You don't have access to channel 198..
so, you didn't see the press conference.

PVR will launch before you know it.

IN Visions stores there are demo's already.

PVR's launch date (mentioned in August 7th conference is 1 month from that date)

So, stop being in denile..

SC's TIVO plan, i like it, because the Search and Season pass feature.. AND TEAM UP with AOL, kind of the AOLTIVO with keyboard.

You know anything possible in this world even in the land of DTH,just because SC hasn't really said much about what there really going to carry doesn't neccessarly mean the won't be carry such and such channel.Remember anything possible in life.As to why SC has not up graded their IPG I don't know thats anyones guess, but you never know suddenly you wake up Friday morning turn on tv,SC receiver, pulling up the IPG think you will see the same old thing and low and behold what do you see?
50+ new channels listed on IPG ,you guys shouldn't give up hope because anything possible in life.Even though I have Rogers Digital,BEV and yes SC as well I too am fustrated as to why SC is taken so long>And I to want SC also to have as many channels as possible for there subs, even though I may be able to see certain channels on my other systems I'll tell this its a pain having to switch from system to system if I want to see this or that. But just remember don't give up hope it will evenually work sooner or later hopefully sooner, but anything possible,as for the rumor of SC going Belly UP I don't beleive that for one second something big like that is very hard to keep secret someone in side always lets the "cat of the bag" and I haven't really heard anything concert on the matter and untill its report on ROBTV,GobleMail or something like that then it's only gossip and shouldn't be beleived.Don't give up hope you SC Subs anything possible only if wish hard enough you wishes could come true.DON'T GIVE UP!!!
PEACE UP TOM http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Star Choice has many channels up already
and all that is needed is the mappings changed on the receivers.

I counted 32 new ones already up on F1 ku
that SC only needs to map in the IPG.
I would not doubt that they already have the new maps made up and are just waiting for the proper time to upload them.

I feel that the reason SC is always behind Evu is because SC is bonus revenue from Shaw's main cable operation! F1 is used to distribute channels to the cable headends! SC has provided the ability to market and sell dth as an off shoot of their cable operation. As a result, SC will be forced to follow what the cable operations do. Evu on the otherhand can pretty much do as they like.

Exactly - they can keep upping & upping the compression ratio just like DirecTV did. When the early adopters of DirecTV got pissed off and moved to Dish, DirecTV didn't care as they were getting many more new subs whose only concern was more and more channels, not PQ or innovation

I think Star Choice is smart by waiting. They are working hard in making sure all their repoints/upgrades are taking care of. By the wait time on their phone line, it appears like they are almost done with it. Once that completed, I'm sure they will come out very strong and might even surprise a few!!!

SC must be staying quiet for a reason. i'm sure whenever there ready to announce something , it will be big!!

Hopefully they'll be more careful about the download this time. We wouldn't want another mess such as we had last week would we?
