I was wondering if anyone has been having problems with their Expressvu model 3100 with video skipping. It seems when watching hockey games or any fast action the video will skip, it does not turn black or pixelize it just gets choppy...this is a pain, any ideas??

An update to my situation...I have this same problem and when I called Bell they asked me to try several things one of them being to plug the unit directly into the wall and not a powerbar. I did this but it didn't make a difference. The problem I am having is not constant and I may experience the video skipping 2 or 3 times within an hour (+or-). When this does occour (usually during hockey games, fast motion) as unican says its not a breakup of the picture it seems more like missing video frames. Anyway one of the suggestions they made to me was to swap out my 3100 with my 2700 unit and see if the problem followed. I had the units swapped out for over a week and I didn't notice a problem. Well I reconnected the 3100 to my bedroom TV and sure enough the problem returned, I left the unit and lived with it like this for about a month and it still has the same problem. I put in another call to Bell and the CSR I spoke to put me on hold and spoke with one of thier techs and what he told me made sense. It seems that some of the early model 3100's have a problem with the video skipping when you use just the RCA connectors on the back of the unit, and in my case my bedroom TV does not have S-video so I used the RCA connection. When I swapped the unit to the set where the 2700 is connected the Sony TV its on does have an SVHS connection and when I hooked it up I didn't see any problems. Well Bell is sending me a replacement reciever and when I get it and set it up I will update this thread with my results.

Update.......I recieved my replacement reciever from Bell last night,(the knucklehead from Canada Post just left it on my doorstep instead of leaving an note for me to pick it up from the local post office.) Anyhow I replace my faulty unit with the replacement and called Bell to get it activated. After being on the phone for about 10 minutes I was good to go. I noticed now that when I hit the guide button the PIP comes up immeadiately or at least 8 out of 10 times. As for the Video Skipping there was no hockey on last night to test it. But I did not notice the problem on regular programming. I will keep this thread updated with any findings. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

For the record, many consumers such as myself, prefer to have the package left at the doorstep (weather permitting) because we're anxious to get what we ordered as possible. When you're not home, the package has to be returned to the post office, and then often reforwarded the next day to the nearest outlet to be held for pickup. This often causes at least an extra day, if not two, to the delivery cycle.

The same practise is also carried out by FedEx and UPS depending upon the neighbourhood being delivered to, and whether it appears that there may be limited opportunity for loss or damage due to the weather.

I suggest that rather than calling the guy who delivered your package a "knucklehead", you might want to congratulate him for showing some initiative. After all, you did get the receiver intact, and you didn't have to wait an extra day to go pick it up yourself.

Yes I did recieve the package intact but what if it got taken by someone (whether they used it or not) and then I would be waiting and waiting not knowing that it got swiped. I would then have to go thorough the hassle of calling Bell and they would say they shipped it and I would say I didn't recieve it, and they would have to call CP and then call me back eventually and then send me another unit and I'm quite sure this would take a week or 2. I was fully expecting to have a note posted on my door to go to the local post office to pick the package up. This is what usually happens. I mean if I order stuff from anywhere eg eBay or any other mail order stuff I am not to confident if the CP person just leaves it on my doorstep (for who knows how many hours) until I come and retrive it. How would I go about explaining to eBay or others that I didn't recieve thier shipment. I think this procedure would be much more of a pain in the @$$ than getting the package a day later but in a more secure manner. P.S. my brother is/was a postie and he says he never leaves packages on doorsteps without obtaining a signature first. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Different people have different comfort levels. I have friends who wouldn't dream of leaving their front door unlocked even while they're in the house. Personally, I receive many packages through internet purchasing, and I find it a royal pain in the derriere to wait the extra day, and then drive to the local drugstore to pick up my package.

The safest practise for any carrier is to obtain a signature, but the greatest convenience for many is to have the package left. I still think that it is unfair to make disparaging comments about the delivery guy who undoubtedly thought he was doing you a favour. He gets paid whether he leaves it for you or not....it's all pensionable time.

If you want to make sure no more packages get left in the future, contact your letter carrier depot and leave the message with them...that should take care of it. Please don't create so much of an issue with them that everyone else is forced to wait the extra day and pick their parcels up themselves.

OK Paul whatever, I just think in this case if the unit was stolen I would have been inconvienced (sp) more than having use of it 1 or 2 days earlier. And I think most people would be bummed if they didn't get thier package because of the fact that the weather or someone rendered the contents of the package unusable. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Are you using just the RCA connectors
ie Not Svideo connector, just RCA video connector.
If so call Bev and complain.

heres and idea.. why not use this thread as it was intended and not to flame people..

personally I think calling him a "knucklehead" wasn't that bad.. I would have called him something different

Hydoponic,

Angelfish closed out her comment on the delivery issue two days ago, and since then I have probably posted in a dozen other threads. As far as I was concerned the matter was closed. Now it seems you are anxious to go back off topic two days later...what's with that?

For the record, Angelfish framed his concern with what I deemed an objectionable comment. I took offense, and pointed out why in a very non-confrontational manner. He responded to my comments by asking me a question...once again I responded in a non-confrontational manner. He closed out the issue as was his perogative, and I was done.

I have a hard time reconciling what just occurred as "flaming". I suspect that if someone opened a thread by criticising the aptitude of satellite installers for a practise that you carried out as a favour to customers (for instance wiring a second receiver at no additional cost)...you might want someone to defend that practise as well.

btw... I'm still done with this thread and out of respect for the original topic, suggest that you email me personally if you wish to continue the discussion.

I downloaded the new open TV firmware from the 119 dish satellite. It seems like there is less video skipping and my receiver now has a call display feature /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

This is a joke. Why should we Expressvu paying customers have to re-align our dishes to Dishnet satellites to get bug fixes?

I am getting P.O.'d at Bell more every day.

Because it's cheaper for them. Why pay to download upgrades from nimiq when the upgrade is already coming down off another satellite.

I just wonder if this would be regarded as "grey market"?

Zoso as UNICAN and I did call BEV and complain untill you get a replacement. Mine arrived and was left on my doorstep and I haven't noticed any video skipping yet. (now that the leaf$ are out we don't watch much hockey) but I will keep checking to see if the video still skips. Anyhow I suggest you and anyone else that has this problem gets it looked after. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Angelfish, I experienced the exact same problem that you descibed. Only during hockey though. When I first noticed it, during the olympics, I was a new subscriber and thought oh well this is satellite. Then leading up to the playoffs it really got to be a pain. The CSR new exactly what model it was that I was that I was having a problem with. And the fix was like you said, to take the power directly from the outlet and not through a power bar/surge protector. The problem seemed to be solved, but ten minutes later, skipping! Later in the week I called again, told me to switch receivers and narrow it down to my TVs as they don't know why there is a problem. Called again and the CSR talked about hitting/zapping my receiver, but that would probably do more damage. After trying to watch some hockey and having both my 2700 and 3100 hooked up to the same tv and switching the inputs around like an idiot, for weeks, to try to pinpoint the problem, I called the CSR and they told me that it was CBC feed problems all along. I fired off and email to CBC and included basically all of the above and never got a reply. I was so [censored]. Anyways, hockey was over and I have never experienced the problem again. But then again I don't watch much other TV. I was wondering(thanks for letting me vent /forums/images/icons/smile.gif) if you have experienced any problems yet with your new receiver since.

Thanks

As I said above now that hockey is over I don't notice the problem with my replacement reciever. Did you have the Svideo connector connected to the TV or did you just use the RCA outputs of the receiver to the TV. For me I was told that the RCA outputs were the problem. Anyhow I do like the 3100 reciver and I was willing to buy another one, but with the implementation of the $5 fee I think I'll pass.
However I still have a $30 off Costco coupon for a complete 3120 system and I may purchase it anyway and just hang onto the 3100 and gamble that they may just charge all customers with the fee then I can add this reciever to my setup.
