Hi BEV Friends,

Isn't the picture on Fox Boston (303) rediculous? It always has that red tone over the entire picture, all the time, unless sim-sub.

I find that really all the west coast networks are quite a bit better across the board.

That Fox Boston is rediculous though.

Yah, I've noticed that too. Its kind of like a reddish-brownish hue. Its always been like that. NBC-Boston is the opposite which looks like too much white. ABC and CBS look good though.

This problem won't be solved until BEV upgrades their feeds from the OTA signals they are getting now to studio grade hardwire feeds that are available to them. Both WGBH and Cancom have those feeds in studio grade but BEV so far has not purchased them.

If Cancom has Fox Boston in studio grade, why doesn't SC drop that "soft" Fox Rochester picture and replace with Boston?

You would have to ask SC that question. At present my understanding is that they are contracted to use only Detroit/Buffalo/Rochester feeds for the DTH service and the Boston feeds are to be used for their SDRU service only. If you lived here in the Maritimes that is what you would get for channels on your cable service...the SDRU feeds from Cancom from Boston. Here in the major centres in NB however there are some modifications with the replacement of NBC Boston with NBC Bangor and PBS Boston with Maine PBS and lastly, if you live along the border with Maine you get WAGM Presque Isle as your CBS feed instead of CBS Boston. Maine PBS and WAGM are OTA feeds. NBC Bangor (WLBZ) is microwave interconnect with the Rogers fibre circuit that they inherited from Fundy Cable.

Hmmm....Does StarChoice really pay any $$$$ to the US locals? I doubt it.

The US locals likely don't give a rat's tail about their signals being distributed in Canada. Any extra eyeballs are likely a bonus that a few advertisers may be slightly interested in.....I doubt that this pitch is worth many $$

As the Boston nets are already on F1....they are CRTC approved for DTH + StarChoice subs want them.....

....IMO StarChoice should flip a few toggle switches & let us have another option for East nets.

Don't hold your breath, if Global gets their way you won't have any at all /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

This is what makes me laugh about those who cry about program rights, anyone really believe that the sleepy stations from Spokane aquired Canadian rights to all their programming? Doubtful if CourtTV couldn't do it.

By "contracted" I meant that Cancom had set out in their licence application that they would have the Boston nets for their SDRU service. It was substantially after that when they merged with Star Choice. Star Choice has already applied and had received permission to use Detroit and the Buffalo/Rochester combo. Until they change their applications they cannot make any changes.

Furthermore, it is a copyright requirement that the US stations approve their carriage on the Canadian services. It is possible that SC has approached the Boston nets about carriage and have been turned down. You would have to ask them directly.
