With respect to Starchoice,
My 401 (new as of December '01) but finally set up permanantly is still firmware ver. 9A, and I'm having a lot of IPG grief.
Every other day it seems I'm calling for a re-hit to clear the no-info screen. The last tech. I talked to said 9A was notorious for corrupting the IPG, but I don't ever recall so much trouble when my 421b was still 9A (it is now DC, I wouldn't let it accept C6), I was hoping I could get some answers on 2 or 3 questions....

1. Was 9A a bad version for the 401?
2. How long before I can expect an update to DC (or 110 for that matter)?
3. The tech said 9A wouldn't let the 401 support dual sat (send 22KHz tone to multiswitch), yet I can tune to channel #'s 720 and 750 (which are supposedly only Anik E2 channels) albeit at low Eb/No numbers like 3.6 to 4.2 Did he know what he was talking about?

P.S. network data status(options 6-4, line k) was 80 (regional west English dual sat non-stacked map), but is now 57 (National English dual sat non-stacked map?, I think) as of the re-hit they did this morning.

Any (worthwhile) advice, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ben,

I won't get into the IPG grief, I think there is another thread for that somewhere, but as for your questions;

1. No
2. Pending (DC is no longer being sent, so expect 110 when you actually get it)
3. I don't think 9A was Dual sat, but you can check OPT 6,6 is there an EAI output? Yes...dual sat, No... not dual sat.

You can tune to those channels (720 etc) because they are in your map, but that doesnt mean the reciever is dual sat ready and switching sats for you (No 22khz)

Your NWDS dictates your map. 80 is a regional (west) dual look nonstacked map, 57 would be regional (west) single sat nonstacked.

<Did he know what he was talking about?>
For you to decide.

Cheers

dyslexia rears it's ugly head again...

I meant NDS of 75, not 57!

is there any truth to the wives' tale that a receiver should be left on a specific channel to receive the new firmware more effectivly?

2002-04-09,
this A.M.
421b still ver. DC
401 still ver.9A

(no timers set on either receiver, both were powered down, and I even left the 401 on channel 508 overnight.)

75 is a National Western Nonstacked code. The national part means you would also see eastern channels on your map/IPG, though you still can't get them.

Sometimes they send a down-load on a certain transponder, other times they send it on all, so it really depends.

Thanks Chief

you say it depends? (I'm soaking in it...)
I'll try to be patient, thanks for the time, I appreciate it.

I wouldn't worry about what channel to leave it on, since
it will switch to the proper channel automatically when you
power down.
