Does anyone know if ExpressVu will be introducing a Model 6000 with a PVR anytime soon? As excited I am about delving into the HDTV world, I would really like to be able to have a receiver that could combine those 2 functionalities.

On a related note, does anyone know if the soon to be released Moxi set-top box in the States will be compatible with ExpressVu signals? I've been studying the specs of the unit and it seems quite impressive. I also read some time ago that Moxi and Dish signed some sort of agreement for technology compatibility. I'm wondering if this will be extended to Bell equipment. I'm hoping that this is indeed the case, thus enabling me to 'kill several birds with one stone' with the Moxi unit.

Echostar claims to be launching the 921 HD PVR with dual tuners at end of 2002. But this could be vapourware. It will be clearer after the Thomson dual DTV/E* receivers are launched. As stated by other posters, the 6000 platform development is finished. Echostar will not be spending any more money on upgrades, etc for the 6000.

Call me a pessimist.

Hollywood is seriously concerned about this lethal combo: HDTV and PVR. They are scared that this would lead to an increasing number of people having perfect copies of movies, TV shows and other events. They DON'T want you to have that luxury.

So I don't expect this to become a reality quickly. They're probably working on encryption. The end product will probably allow you to watch 100% of the HD material, but RECORD less than 50% of them (probably excluding all first-run movies and PPV sporting events)

I have to agree 100%. Especially with hispeed internet becoming much more widespread. Hollywood certainly doesn't HD bits & bytes flying around in a Napster like quagmire.

Couldn't they make an HDTV/PVR combination that would only allow recording of the non-HDTV channels?

It'd mean we'd have to watch HDTV live, which would be hard after being accustomed to the 5100 (it really changes the way we watch TV).

That's probably what an HDTV/PVR will be able to do. It can probably record some HDTV -- like the news or "The Tonight Show".

A step further, it may allow you to record HDTV for your own viewing only and not transportable to another PVR or a PC. Or it may limit the number of plays for an HDTV show.

A fellow at work, a truthful fellow BTW, told me his son downloaded the entire Lord of The Rings Movie over the 'net. It apparently required 4 (6?) CDs. He says the illicit copy looks superb.

This astounded me! No wonder Hollywood is ticked.

I haven't seen the copy so the story is second hand. The guy is certainly not a liar but I can't verify his acumen in assessing PQ either.

At a connect speed of 33K, on a good day, I didn't go looking for the site.
