A few years ago when I first got Starchoice I seem to recall a special service for farmers called Agcast or something. Is this still around?
When I seen my Dad at Christmas he told me he wanted to switch to BEV because of the cattle auctions. Of course my Dad is a cattle farmer. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Thanks.

I have never seen a channel on my S.C. guide called Agcast.
What channel on Vu do the cattle auctions come on?

Agcast or whatever it was called had data service for farmers . I can`t recall what channel number the cattle auctions are on for BEV. I think it is a virtual channel added just for the auctions. Anyone recall the details? Thanks.

I believe it's been gone for a couple years now.

BEV has the cattle auctions occasionly on Super Definition TV-channel 188. However, you only see it like once a month.
I can remember Agcast, I'm almost sure that starchoice used the datastream on one of their channels to provide weather/grain prices, etc via one of the dataports on the receivers. But nobody I know who farmed had a computer at the tme.

Bent
The data was on the same channel as the Weather Network.
an answer leads to two questions
1. was there any connection to why the weather network was the first to have DD1.0???? (two years ago, it would light up the multicannel light on Sony receivers)
2. what else was used to transcode the data?

I see that Bev is offering "Canadian Satellite Livestock Auction". Here is the link if you're still interested.

You'll see a link to click for Bell Expressvu offer...

I remember when they offered Agcast, I had just bought a BEV dish (late 1997)...some folks wanted Agcast but you had to have a computer (some of us did then, and a lot do now - 50% of farmers use the internet in Alberta), but the trouble was that the kids could not watch SC while Dad surfed Agcast. You had to have two receivers (which was expensive at the time, but did not charge $4.99/mo extra). So I don't know anybody who had one. I don't know if Agcast is still sold by SC or not. The delivery pipe for it now would be high speed internet which is just on the verge of getting out in the country...

Trying to milk that line for all it's worth eh?
How does it feel to be a lowly LSD only owner? You realize that means you are not allowed to post anything of interest on the 4DTV forum now! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif
