It looks like it's now official. SC will be carrying the Fox Widescreen 480i upconvert Superbowl XXXVI. It's listed on channel 290 (HD1) from 6:00pm to 9:30pm Sunday Feb 3.

Is it 480i or 480P? Does your guide scroll that far ahead already or is this on the website somewhere?? I hope they do show it widescreen.

Since it's being carried on the HD channel, we can assume it's not 480i!

Uh Oh! That may mean there wont be any sound. Cheers.

It's on the website IPG.

Fox will be using 480i cameras set to widescreen mode, which will then be upconverted to 480p by the local affiliates, then upconverted to 1080i by StarChoice, then converted to your choice of output formats on the HDD-201.

I'm not expecting much with all these conversions on top of a 480i source.

so it should look like a 3rd generation copy of a rental videocassette !

Star Choice Fax Alert confirms the Superbowl will be carried "in 16:9 SDTV". The schedule is:

Pre-game - 1:30pm to 6pm - 4:3
Game - 6pm to end - 16:9
Post-game (approx 1 hour) - 4:3

The don't say anything about upconverting to 1080i on their end, so be sure to try out the output switch on the back of your 201!

480i - come on Rupert, you could have at least done with 480p. Mark Cuban is going to run a replay of a college game in 1080i on HDNet, so that HD viewers can show their Super Bowl guests what HD football really looks like.

Just opened my Star choice mail on my 401/201 confirming the broadcast will be on the HD channels 290/291 in widescreen sdtv.

My Superbowl party might have just gotten better.
