Well, you may want to give a little more detail than that.
Yes, the high speed portion is only on the downlink. The uplink is down through a phone line and a local ISP (not provided by BEV).

I thought the question was about satellite internet. Nothing was asked about phone lines.

But there are two basic kinds, one way, which is downlink
only by satellite, requires some form of return channel,
usually a dial up ISP, which is whay BEV's satellite internet is. The other uses the satellite for return,
but there is no such consumer service in Canada yet.

There is one, and maybe two services from U.S. dealers who could probably sell you service since there shouldn't be any legal issues involved. I think R.S. markets a service - go to their web site and see.

You can check out BEV's offering for satellite internet here, http://www.direcpc.ca/ Equipment is $200.00 (after credit) which is on top of any 'TV' satellite equipment you may need to buy (if you don't have a BEV already) Cost per month is $40 to $50 dollars (for 60 hours, more for unlimited) plus a dialup account which is necessary for all uploading.
Two way satellite internet is available in Canada, our host in fact has info on it here http://www.kusat.com/2way/ if I remember correctly it is quite expensive for both equipment purchase and monthly fees but who knows, maybe this is exactly what you are looking for. As for quality of service I have yet to find a forum where such service is discussed.

You may also wish to check www.lincsat.com (http://www.lincsat.com) for alternate solutions.

LinCsat is going to be provided from Galaxy 11 at 91 W.
I hear some areas will require the larger dishes (1.2 and 1.8M sizes), the standard 75cm will serve most areas though.
I hope the systems hit the market by early Feb. or Mar. at the latest. In the spring people start spending money on outdoor stuff.

Where did you get the info on Feb/March availability? The web site strongly implies it's available *now* (or, at least, they're taking orders now).
I sent a note requesting dealer information for the Ottawa area over a week ago, which remains unreplied to (*not* a good start in customer relations).
I'm interested because I may be looking to sign up for one of the 2-way Sat-based services *imminently* (like, within a couple of weeks). I *had* selected StarBand, but I like what I see on the LincSat site, if only I can get them to actually talk real numbers (especially dates) with me.
