View Full Version : ExpressVu to carry Fox EDTV Superbowl

My contacts at EVU say they will be carrying the Boston Fox EDTV (480p 16:9) Superbowl broadcast.

They are also very optimistic about the Olympics, now that Boston NBC is on line with HDTV.

Thank You BEV!! Now I can plan that Super Bowl Party.

Will the non-HD BEVers get to see:

Boston Fox
Seattle Fox

or will they see....
Global's sim-sub of Fox's Superbowl?

BTW-I fully expect that Rochester Fox to be sim-subbed by Global Saint John on StarChoice(here in NS).

I plan to watch Spokane Fox.

I guess an SDTV coverage would be enough...

Which channelwill it be on? I am guessing 286.

With any luck channel 299 will have it in "Super Definition" widescreen.

That's good news.
My letter campaign to BEV can stop now.

thanks Ken

Ya it wont be as good as hdtv but at least we can see the real commercials (lol). BEV i hope will pick up the MAV LAKERS game from HDNET as well (which is real hdtv) so that I can show my guests the amazing difference between the two standards. To bad FOX is too cheap!

....And spend another $120 for a UHF antenna to get WJBK-DT Detroit -- hardly likely.....

another Urban Legend bites the dust - the mythical Cancom fibre link from Detroit to Windsor must be stuck at Customs

Good news! I'm not much of a football fan (unless the game is being played in a blizzard!) but U2 at halftime, in 480P widescreen, should be cool. And once again Expressvu shows us their commitment to satisfying their HD subscribers http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Ken, seeing as you seem to be somewhat plugged into Expressvu's HD plans, is there any indication as to what they're going to do with their hockey and lacrosse pickups from HDNet?

The assumption has been they'll tie it into the Center Ice subscriptions--although I don't know how they could do that with the lacrosse--but I've yet to see any official word, and they're starting to post the hockey and lacrosse schedules for February and March on the HDnfo channel.

Also, HDNet has bolstered their hockey schedule through to the end of the season, which might tip the balance if we're going to be expected to pony up for Center Ice to keep the HD hockey coming.

don't get your hopes up.
Lasts years CBS HD half time show was in SD.
This not to say that FOX will do the same ,all I'm saying is just because the game is 480p , doesn't mean half time will be.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

One of the "advantages" of the Fox Widescreen EDTV broadcast, is that the entire deal will be in the same format. So U2 should be in glorious 16:9 480p, as well as the pre-pre-pre game show, the pre-pre game show, the pre-game show.....

...well, you get the idea.

>>Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Straight from the horse's mouth:

>>Fox's Jim Defilippis told Craig Birkmaier, moderator of the OpenDTV newsgroup, "The production of the game, pre-game, and halftime show will be 480i60 widescreen (16:9). All cameras will be set for widescreen and the show will be produced in the shoot wide/protect 4 X 3 mode... The 16 X 9 is the full production mix, with the 4 X 3 derived; thus for the first time the DTV viewer will have everything the NTSC viewer sees and more.

SC should simsub all four FOX stations No matter where you live in Canada, by only Simsubing one then people can tune to the other.

FYI, SC only has 3 Fox stations. Rochester, Spokane and Seattle.

May I ask what sort of contacts you're referring to Ken? I don't mean their names or positions or anything like that, but I'd just like to make sure we're not getting excited over some CSR's invention or rumour du jour. http://www.kusat.com/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks Frank, that's good to know. It's happened too often that someone's repeated something from an unreliable source and people got annoyed when it turned out to be untrue. I wouldn't want that to happen with something as big as the SuperBowl

No problem, I understand your concern. For your reference, I speak directly with ExpressVu programming managers & executives.

One of my past conversations was regarding addition of HDNet to the ExpressVu line up. That turned out quite nicely, yes?

And Frank is right; I am Ken H of the AVS HDTV Forums.

As I mentioned above, it looks very good for EVU to have the NBC HDTV Olympic coverage.

The Masters will be on CBS, but they have not announced if it will be in HDTV, or not. The last two years were in HDTV, but in the end it will come down to sponsorship dollars. If someone bellies up to the bar, it will happen, and EVU will have it.
